About six months ago, I started listening to mp3 sermons from a preacher out of Bangalore India. (His name is Zac Poonen and his web site is http://www.cfcindia.com.)
One of the recurring themes I have noticed in his sermons is that he asks the penetrating question "Has the Holy Spirit helped you to become Holy?"
For me it is a very searing question. I have met people who happen to speak in tongues but also have serious sin problems in their lives (anger, lust, pride, selfishness). I have also met people who may not happen to speak in tongues but who seem to demonstrate the love of Jesus in the way they treat me as a person.
I like the way Zac Poonen puts it in his sermons. If all you're doing is making noise in a praise meeting, but then going home still defeated by sin in your life (anger, lust, love of money, etc.) then you've received the "noisy spirit", not the Holy Spirit. He goes on to say that if we've only received the noisy spirit, then we need to repent and ask God to give us the real thing - a genuine baptism in the HOLY Spirit.
May the Lord God speak to us as we search our hearts.

As I respond to God's grace, He gives me more. At the least I don't want to be an stumbling block to those seeking God, if I can't be a positive influence because of my AS.
Maybe I'll get to where I can effectively declare the gospel if I continue in His grace.
