I collect playscale (1:6) action dolls. I originally started collecting them to help with my figure drawing, since I have some face-blindness. "Action dolls" are those figures that bridge the gap between "action figures" & "fashion dolls." They include redressible action figures, like the original GI Joe, and fashion dolls with better articulation, like some Barbie doll bodies. Some ball-jointed dolls were created to be used both ways, but they tend to be more expensive. Though I have bought some of my figures new, the vast majority of them were purchased from various resale outlets. This isn't investment collecting. It is a form of miniaturism/scale modeling/diorama work. It is known as Playscale Miniaturism. If a head that I like is not on a body I like (or vice-versa), I will transplant it to a body I do like, and mix and match their clothing & accessories however I see fit. This is known as kit-bashing. Traditional lay figure Though I originally started collecting these figures in order to create custom lay figures (with faces), cataloging & looking for particular heads/bodies/details has become pretty Aspie-engrossing in its own right... I have web pages that form the Studio 126 Web Ring. Customized Joes, Janes, Barbies, Kens, etc. as lay figures
