In my Aspie support group we learned that everyone's birthdays were in mid-fall to mid-winter. I remembered that in another group 90% were born in that same period. I looked on line and found an article to the effect that there is a 91% increase in the chance of an ASD for those conceived in winter.
I have long thought that old stale sperm was the culprit in a large number of birth defects, schizophrenia, Down Syndrome, etc. Older men tend to engage in sex less frequently, and winter is a time of hibernation-like lack of activity, especially of the sexual kind. I am only talking about tendencies, so not every case will fit. But I would like to explore this and see where it leads.
I was born in February, which would put my conception in late May. But I am an Irish twin, conceived less than 2 months after my brother's birth. I was almost an Irish triplet. My sister, an NT, was conceived just over 3 months after my birth. Perhaps I was conceived on the first post-partum romp. Perhaps not so for my sister. My next brother was born in August. I suspect he was an Aspie, but we'll never know. He died before I was diagnosed. It's possible he was conceived upon a reconciliation of my parents; they separated several times.
How does this comport with others' experience/knowledge?
And early death for Aspies is another topic I would like to explore. My brother died at 49, estranged from the family. My 1st cousin, whom I am certain was an Aspie, died at 56, alone in his apartment and he wasn't discovered for 3 days. I am estranged from my siblings. Is it Asperger's or the concommitant isolation? Or is it just coincidence?
